Summer and Polo; a 2018 first

It has been a difficult weekend. Emotions all over the place. But I have had an overwhelming flow of messages of love and compassion from my siblings, my partner, you guys, and a lot of my friends.

And that’s what life is about...

That we maintain an ongoing legacy of showing kindness to each other.

But while I grieve one friend that has been tragically taken away from me, I also want to continue to love and appreciate those who are here...

So thank you Mica for making what could have been a miserable weekend, a lovely one.

Because all I did before you arrived was cry uncontrollably and my poor partner would hold me tight in silence. His heart breaking, seeing me in tears.

Mica drove down all the way from Wembley to us, we had dinner and wine together, talked about life and death. It even happens that Mica and the late Simmone went to school together in Wembley.

Anyway I had contemplated telling Mica that I wasn’t interested in attending this event because I was too sad, and my partner asked me a question.

“What would Simmone want for you?, to lie in bed all day weeping or to get on with life, looking ahead”? He said, “it’s obvious you cared a lot about her and it’s going to be a very difficult couple of weeks but don’t let those fond memories you had of her fade in the mourning process, hold on to them and healing will come in time.”

So I decided I won’t let Mica down. Afterall things were still very raw and I needed to be distracted at least for my own health. After-all time heals right?

The next morning we drove to Richmond Polo Park for what turned out to be a fab day of Polo organised by Lux Afrique. The Polo players were some of Africa’s best all the way from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Nigeria and even Argentina. With that, the suggested dress code was bold African and everything chic. So I dug out a dress my sister made for me ages ago and put some make up on.
